Penguins at Boulders Beach

Penguins at Boulders Beach

Boulders is one of Cape Town’s most loved wildlife stops: a protected, land-based colony of African penguins near Simon’s Town. The viewing areas and boardwalks make it easy to see penguins responsibly—close enough for delight, far enough for respect.

Reasons to visit

  • See African penguins in a managed conservation setting

  • Boardwalk viewing that helps keep penguins (and fingers) safe

  • Easy to combine with a Cape Peninsula day (Cape Point + coastal towns)

Suggested time to spend

  • 1–2 hours at the colony/viewpoints

  • Half day if you add Simon’s Town + nearby coastal stops

Practical notes

  • Stick to the boardwalks in the viewing area.

  • Boulders is also cash-free at the gate (card payments).
