Penguins at Boulders Beach
Boulders is one of Cape Town’s most loved wildlife stops: a protected, land-based colony of African penguins near Simon’s Town. The viewing areas and boardwalks make it easy to see penguins responsibly—close enough for delight, far enough for respect.
Reasons to visit
See African penguins in a managed conservation setting
Boardwalk viewing that helps keep penguins (and fingers) safe
Easy to combine with a Cape Peninsula day (Cape Point + coastal towns)
Suggested time to spend
1–2 hours at the colony/viewpoints
Half day if you add Simon’s Town + nearby coastal stops
Practical notes
Stick to the boardwalks in the viewing area.
Boulders is also cash-free at the gate (card payments).
